Kris and Sarah Kappler

One Mission Society missionaries Kris and Sarah Kappler began their assignment in Africa in April 2015. The Kapplers eagerly seek to oversee OMS’ church planting ministry throughout Africa and provide leadership for OMS missionaries in Mozambique and Kenya. Kris works directly with seven area supervisors who are responsible for training and directing church planters. They hope to increase the reach of this successful church planting ministry throughout Africa.

They previously completed one term training missionaries and theological students in South Korea and 11 years mentoring pastors and working with a prayer and conference center in Central Asia.

To supplement Kris’ mission experience and pastoral service as an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church, he earned the doctor of missiology degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in December 2013. Sarah is dynamically engaged with homeschooling one child at home while the other two are in university in the U.S. After eight years of devoted work with orphans in Central Asia, Sarah is developing new ministry opportunities in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In addition to his doctoral degree, Kris also holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Michigan, and a master’s degree in divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree in English literature from Soongsil University, Korea, and her first graduate degree in psychology from Korea University. In 1991, she received an additional master’s degree in Christian counseling from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

The Kapplers have two daughters and one son: Hannah, born in 1994; Elizabeth, born in 1997; and John born in 2000.
