Don and Marla Bettinger

Don and Marla Bettinger are missionaries serving in Taiwan with One Mission Society on loan from World Partners of the Missionary Church. They first went to Taiwan in 1988 to begin Mandarin language study. In 1990, after completing language study, they moved from Taichung to Hualien, located on the eastern coast of Taiwan. During their time in Hualien, Don and Marla worked with the Ami tribal churches and also did outreach in the local community. In 1996, they returned to Taichung to help give leadership to OMS’ English ministry in Taiwan.

From 1999 to January 2007, Don and Marla served at the Taichung Holiness Church, using English as a tool for evangelism and discipleship. They were involved in leading English classes, Bible studies, English rallies, camps and other outreach activities for the purpose of sharing the Gospel, helping believers grow in their faith, and building bridges between the community and the church. They praise God for the fruit he brought as his Word was sown in lives.

Upon their return from home ministry assignment in 2007, the Bettingers relocated to Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, where they served with the Shrlin Holiness Church through July 2012. While there, they used English classes and bilingual Bible studies as a means of outreach to the community. In addition, they also directed the church’s youth ministry.

In August 2012, Don and Marla relocated to eastern Taiwan to be involved in a ministry focusing on discipleship and church planting. They have a heart to reach out to the Taiwanese working class with the Gospel. Their passion is to see people not only learn to become obedient Christ followers but to become disciple-makers, as well. By God’s grace, as disciples are made, the church will advance and multiply. In addition to being involved in various outreach and disciple-making ministries, the Bettingers also help give leadership to a house church that meets in their home.

Don is a 1985 graduate of Summit Christian College (formerly Fort Wayne Bible College), graduating with a degree in world missions. He completed a year of graduate study at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, and holds a certificate in TESOL from the University of the Nations. Don is also an ordained minister in the Missionary Church. Marla graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College in 1984 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in missions. In 2017, they both completed master’s degrees from Asbury Theological Seminary in intercultural studies with a specialization in church planting.

Don and Marla are excited about the doors God continues to open for new ministry opportunities. They find great joy in partnering with their Taiwanese brothers and sisters to see people come to faith in Christ and become obedient, reproducing disciples.

The Bettingers have four sons: Aaron, Andrew, Isaac, and Micah. With the exception of Isaac, who is working in Taiwan, all currently work and reside in the United States.

The Bettingers’ life verse is Philippians 1:6: “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
