Karen Sue Kohler

Karen Sue, missionary with One Mission Society since 1982, was involved in pioneer evangelism and church planting in Japan for 28 years.

Her first seven years in Japan were spent in Tokyo. In 1989, she located to Fukuoka, a city of over one and a half million on the southernmost of the four main islands that compose Japan.

Contacts with people of the city began through distribution of Gospel tracts, door-to-door visitation, friendship evangelism, special evangelistic meetings and other methods. One by one, God brought Japanese to understand the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Fukuoka Christian Fellowship was established, and a church building was dedicated in October 1993.

In 1995, Karen Sue relocated to the west side of the city. The Lord blessed, and a body of believers formed the Nishi Fukuoka Christian Church. She married Sam Kohler in 2001, and they served as assistant pastors of Nishi Fukuoka Christian Church for six years. In October 2006, the church purchased land and a building, and they held a dedication on March 18, 2007.

After 28 years of oversees assignment in Japan, the Lord led the Kohlers to return to the United States. Karen Sue accepted a position in the Development Department of One Mission Society, working as Florida regional director. As regional director, she works to keep missions before churches, pastors and supporters that are currently involved in the world-wide work of OMS. She also challenges new churches and individuals to become a part of God’s work around the world, helps missionaries in scheduling meetings in the Florida area, and assists churches and individuals in getting involved in mission trips to the many countries where OMS is involved.

Karen Sue is a graduate of Youngstown State University and Moody Bible Institute. She and her husband Sam reside in Florida.
