We hope you
enjoyed Sunday night's (March 16) One Mission Stories, OMS' one-hour missionary interview-style radio program, featuring OMS missionaries Jeremy and Melissa Reese, serving in Spain. The interview was done before they left for the field, but today they are there, ministering in youth ministry, teaching English, and helping plant house churches in northeast Spain.
The Reeses talked a lot about their personal call to ministry, missions, and specifically to Spain. It was mainly based on the need there. Out of Spain's 47 million people, less than 1% are evangelical Christians.
Everyone has a story ... enjoy the Reese's ... and make sure you take the time to share yours!

“Be still,
and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!” ―Psalm
46:10
Be silent,
all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy
dwelling. ―Zechariah
2:13
What
draws you to worship? What draws you to pray? I remember a business trip I took
once to Scottsdale, AZ, where I had about three days of down time. My bride,
Kathy, was able to accompany me. We decided to make the four-hour drive to
visit the Grand Canyon and to spend the night there.

We
had read about the Grand Canyon; we had seen pictures; we had talked about this
awesome wonder, but the fact is, we had not yet experienced it. This was our
chance. The entire drive was filled with expectancy as we talked about what we
might see and do. We were excited because we expected an actual encounter.
And
we were not disappointed. As we
approached the rim and gazed out over the expansive depths, the myriad of
colors, the complete vastness of this wonder of God’s creation we responded in
silent awe. Of course, we would talk about it later, but at the time, silence
seemed the only appropriate response to what we were experiencing. Not only
would our words have been inadequate, but any attempt at words would have been
a rude affront to what the majesty of this place demanded of us.
The
next day, as we prepared to leave, I wondered if those who worked here day
after day ever grew complacent to what surrounded them. Or did they find new
wonder as they approached day after day? Do we approach God each day, expecting
to discover something new about him, something we have never before seen that
results in a newfound sense of reverence and awe? Do we expect to encounter his
presence?
Dick
Eastman writes, “Worship provides an opportunity to encounter God in all his
fullness firsthand.” He points out that this worship is essential to powerful
intercession and describes worship as “pure, passionate adoration and fear of
God.”
Is
this how Jesus taught us to approach God? We declare him both as “Abba, Daddy”
and “holy” at the same time in the first sentence of the Lord’s Prayer. Eastman
explains that this fear is not the shrinking fear that John experienced when
all abandoned Jesus after his arrest, but rather, the holy fear expressed in
Revelation 1:17 when he encountered Jesus in all his glory and fell at his feet
as if dead. He describes this fear as an “astonished reverence, breathless
adoration, awesome fascination, and lofty admiration” all at once.
Eastman
concludes that this is an appropriate time for silence! And not only is it
appropriate, but our worshipful silence in his presence is linked to the
nations coming to know him. David declares:
“Be still,
and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!” ―Psalm
46:10
And
Zechariah writes:
“Be silent,
all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling” ―Zechariah
2:13
In
this context, Zechariah is writing about the “Day of the Lord,” and this
command for silence is the conclusion to the nations coming to the Lord in
response to the worship of Israel!
“Sing and
rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst,
declares the Lord. And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that
day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know
that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. And the Lord will inherit Judah as
his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.”―Zechariah
2:10-12
