CPM and Master Plans

CPM and Master Plans

We are nearing the end of the CPM workshop.

Jason (pictured  on the left ), considering the context of his ministry, walking through his master plan. George (on the right) is thinking about how the T&M (Train and Multiply) material will fit into the context of his ministry.

Still others in the group are considering T4T (Training for Trainers) and the development of their master plans. Please pray for the completion of master plans and their successful implementation.

CPM - Second Week

CPM - Second Week

We are in the second week of the CPM Workshop at OMS Headquarters. Participants serving in many different cultures are challenged to pick a process and create a plan to implement upon their return to their field of ministry. Some have decided upon Train and Multiply (T&M) and others Training for Trainers (T4T).

Pictured above is the 2013 Church Planting Movements Group; delegates, facilitators and prayer warriors. The Lord always brings the right people at the right time for training to move His kingdom forward. Please keep this group in your prayers as they work on their ministry plans this week and begin implementing them in the days, weeks and years to come.

What Is Your Process?

August 9 2013

What Is Your Process?

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Tim 2:2

ECC trains, facilitates and coaches on 3 church planting processes: Training for Trainers (T4T), Train and Multiply (T&M), and Village Church Planting (VCP). This week we will focus on 2 of those; T4T & T&M.

Bill Smith will train on T4T, a CM process that has seen tens of thousands of churches started and hundreds of thousands of people, who never know Jesus come to know Him, love Him and obey Him.

Jim Hogrefe, David Guillen and Dean Davis will be leading us through the T&M CM process which likewise has been used of God on 5 continents to start tens of thousands of worshiping groups.

Why T4T?  -  It weaves all of the aspects of church planting into one connected process that is obedience based and easy to pass on to others.  In the T4T process, evangelism, follow up, discipleship, forming groups into churches, and training of trainers who will serve as biblical leaders for the new churches are integrated.  The stress is placed on the training of trainers because the trainers pass along everything they know, while in some cases leaders seek to use what they know to reinforce the need for others to follow.

Why T&M?  -  Train and Multiply is a disciple making, leadership training, multiplication process that helps ordinary Christians win people to Christ, make disciples, and start new groups of Christ followers which can grow, be healthy and multiply. It is made up of 63 training booklets using a menu approach to help meet the needs of the church. Training pastoral workers and teaching them to obey the commands of Jesus is the key; God is at the heart and multiplication is the result.

We will challenge participants to select a process, put it in to their context and develop a master plan for implementation once they arrive or return to their area of ministry. Please pray for these groups of people to hear from the Lord about which process to use.

I See DOTS!

August 7 2013

I See DOTS!

I see DOTS! (12 Principles of Church Multiplication)

1. Which of the principles listed below has helped you the most in your ministry so far?

2. Which one of the following principles do you most want to investigate in order to apply it in your context?

–Fervent Prayer

–Abundant gospel sowing

–Intentional church planting

–Scriptural authority

–Local leadership

–Lay leadership

–Cell or house churches

–Churches planting churches

–Rapid reproduction

–Healthy churches

–Rapid incorporation of new believers into the life and ministry of the church

–On-the-job training for church leadership

We see these principles applied in the book of Acts. As we consider the people in our zone of influence, we think about what they will need (the things that only God can provide) in their lives. We pray for God's greatness and love in the lives of these people (Chr. 16). We pray for His ability and willingness to draw lost people to Himself and save them (Mk 9).

And we pray for multitudes to hear the Word of the Lord and for many thousands to come to faith in Jesus and follow him as disciples (Acts 16).

CPM - Church Planting Movement

"Some of you are going to change big parts of the world in big ways. Some of you are going to change the lives of families and towns in big ways.  All of you, if you will trust and obey the Lord, will be used of God to bring glory to his name, to bring salvation to his people and to manifest His kingdom on earth."

“A Church-Planting Movement is a rapid and exponential increase of indigenous churches planting churches within a given people group or population segment.” (David Garrison)

There are three key components to this definition. The first is rapid. As a movement, a CPM occurs with rapid increases in new church starts. Saturation church planting over decades and even centuries is good, but does not qualify as a Church Planting Movement.

Secondly, there is an exponential increase. This means that the increase in churches is not simply incremental growth—adding a few churches every year or so. Instead, it compounds exponentially—two churches become four, four churches become 16 and so forth. Exponential multiplication is only possible when new churches are being started by the churches themselves–rather than by professional church planters or missionaries.

Finally, they are indigenous. This means they are generated from within rather than from without. This is not to say that the gospel is able to spring up intuitively within a people group. The gospel always enters a people group from the outside; this is the task of the missionary or church planter. However, in a Church Planting Movement the momentum quickly becomes indigenous so that the initiative and drive of the movement comes from within the people group rather than from outsiders.

For clarification, we should also consider what a CPM is not. A CPM is not simply an increase in the number of churches, though this is a commendable occurrence. The key distinction is when the vision of churches planting churches spreads from the missionary and from the professional church planter to the churches themselves so that they have it in their very nature that they should be winning the lost and reproducing themselves.

Churches planting churches, one group giving birth to another group. This is the DNA that will drive a CPM. We come together from across the country and around the globe to learn more about CPM's. We will look into the process of Train & Multiply (T&M) and Training for Trainers (T4T). As we consider our context, we expect God to reveal His plans for us to implement. Praise the Lord for our time together. We look forward to see how God will work during these two weeks.
