One year ago (on January 12, 2010), a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti. It took more than 230,000 lives and more than 1.5 million people are still living in tents a year later. Some say Haiti has not even begun to recover, and the year since has been filled with other turmoil, including a devastating outbreak of cholera, which has taken more than 3,000 lives and infected 130,000 others. In addition, the country has had to weather hurricane Tomas and chaos during the November 2010 elections.

In the midst of so much suffering, missionaries and nationals alike have seen God working and give Him praise for how He has provided despite the tragedies of the last year. Several OMS-related ministries have been involved, ministering on the front lines. For example, Bethesda Medical Clinic has provided earthquake relief for victims through mobile medical clinics, Emmaus Biblical Seminary students saw more than 500 men, women and children become Christians during a three-week trip to a mountaintop community near Port, and Radio 4VEH has continued to broadcast the message of Christ, as well as vital medical information about cholera and important updates for those who survived the earthquake.

We are truly thankful for all that God has done. Even so, a year later, there is still so much need.
