Why One Mission Society
For 110 years, One Mission Society has been united in one purpose ... to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread throughout the world. Today, OMS ministers in 54 countries, on six continents. We serve in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, and God continues to expand our borders every year.
Our Ministry Foundations OMS is about the proclamation of the Gospel. Last year, 313,163 individuals professed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. One Mission Society is extremely effective for its size. In 2009, our mission organization was responsible for more than five days’ growth, or 1.5 percent, of the total evangelical church worldwide. (Source: International Bulletin of Missionary Record, January 2010) OMS exists to train, equip and encourage the sons and daughters of the nations where it serves so that the Gospel can be spread in those countries. Last year OMS, alongside our national partners, started 4,104 responsible, reproducing, Christ-centered indigenous churches. We had 87,591 nationals involved in discipleship training and 23,025 nationals doing leadership training as a result of our international church partnerships around the globe. OMS works in partnerships with more than 80 organizations and denominations. Since 2006, OMS has sent 2,088 individuals on 323 short-term prayer, work and evangelism teams to join in with what God is doing around the world. A recent informal, internal survey revealed that 86 percent of OMS’ career missionaries were involved in missions today because of their positive short-term cross-cultural experiences.
